Losing a son is a terrible grief, probably one of the worst things that can happen. Only a year has passed, this is very little time for the pain to somehow subside, so that one can generally learn to live with the thought that his son is no more. Of course, it’s hard, and bitter, and it hurts my soul more... all this is true, and give it time to settle down.
You are doing the right thing by praying to God. And pray for yourself, that the Lord will give you strength to survive the grief, and for your son. The fact that you don’t dream about your son is very good; it means that everything is going as it should, and you just need to continue to pray for him.
Prayer for the departed is an expression of our love for God, the desire to be with Him in eternity, and therefore to be with those whom we continue to love, despite the fact that they have already left this world and moved to another world. In heartfelt, sincere, fervent prayer, we are reunited with them, because God sees and hears us all - both here on earth and there in eternity.
